Getting your trailer load slowed down and stopped is a matter of braking. When the load gets heavy you should no doubt consider a trailer braking system. Part of that system is a trailer brake controller. The controller gives you maximum control over the amount of force applied to the brakes on the trailer, this helps to keep the load behind you in hard braking, and also makes sure your trailer tires don't lock up every time you touch the brakes.
